Job Description
The Position
The Senior Manager (Associate Director), Global Clinical Operations is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing clinical trial operations within Innovative Medicine. Based in Mumbai, this position ensures the successful execution of registered and non-registered clinical studies, drives operational efficiency, and maintains compliance with global regulatory standards and Johnson & Johnson’s Credo. The role involves cross-functional collaboration, mentorship, and external stakeholder engagement to advance clinical research.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Trial Management
Conduct and oversee registered and non-registered clinical studies, ensuring adherence to ICH-GCP, FDA, EMA, and local regulatory guidelines. Plan and manage daily trial operations, including resource allocation, timelines, and budgets. Identify and evaluate potential trial sites, ensuring compliance with safety, security, and privacy regulations.
Leadership & Collaboration:
Serve as a key point of contact for leadership during cross-functional meetings, providing updates on trial progress and operational strategies. Act independently to communicate with external parties (e.g., CROs, vendors, investigators) to enhance operational efficiency. Drive trial efficiency improvements to support clinical and medical trial objectives.
Mentorship & Supervision:
Guide junior colleagues through consultation and mentoring on clinical operations processes and techniques. Provide functional (matrix) supervision to team members, fostering professional development.
Compliance & Culture:
Integrate Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision-making. Ensure inspection-readiness and compliance with SOPs, HCC (Health Care Compliance), and local regulations.
Innovation:
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance trial execution and operational outcomes.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is preferred.
Experience
Minimum 8–10 years in clinical operations within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or CRO industry, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial role, preferably in global clinical trial management. Proven experience with USFDA, EMA, or DCGI regulations and ICH-GCP guidelines is essential. Candidates should have hands-on experience in site selection, trial monitoring, and vendor management.
Skills
Strong project management and organizational skills to manage complex, multi-country trials. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional and external collaboration. Proficiency in clinical trial management systems (e.g., CTMS, Veeva Vault) and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to mentor and lead teams in a matrix environment. Knowledge of data integrity, 21 CFR Part 11, and inspection-readiness practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in oncology, cardiovascular, or neuroscience therapeutic areas. Familiarity with APAC region clinical trial operations and the Indian regulatory landscape. Certification in clinical research (e.g., CCRA, CCRP) or PMP.
