Job Description
Fermentation Process Development:
- Develop scalable microbial fermentation processes from shake flask to 25,000-litre reactor scale
- Optimize batch, fed-batch, and continuous fermentation conditions for API production
- Select and screen microbial strains to enhance yield and productivity
Process Scale-Up:
- Support scale-up operations from laboratory (shake flask, bench-scale) to plant scale (25,000L bioreactors)
- Conduct pilot-scale trials and validate process parameters
- Collaborate with engineering teams for bioreactor setup and optimization
Operation and Monitoring:
- Set up, operate, and monitor microbial fermentation processes per SOPs
- Perform in-process sampling, analytical testing (e.g., HPLC, OD, pH), and data logging
- Ensure compliance with 21CFR Part 11 for data integrity
Quality and Compliance:
- Maintain cGMP standards during fermentation and scale-up
- Document processes in BPRs, logbooks, and LIMS
- Support OOS investigations and CAPA implementation
Team Collaboration:
- Work with cross-functional teams (AR&D, QA, engineering) to meet production timelines
- Train junior staff on fermentation protocols and safety procedures
Key Skills
- Expertise in microbial fermentation (batch, fed-batch, continuous) for API production
- Hands-on experience with bioreactors (50L to 25,000L scale)
- Proficiency in analytical tools like HPLC, UV-Vis, and biomass analysis
- Knowledge of cGMP, GLP, and USFDA/EU-GMP regulations
- Familiarity with QMS (deviations, CAPA, change controls) and LIMS
- Strong problem-solving skills for process optimization and troubleshooting
- Ability to work in shifts and handle high-pressure production schedules
