Role Overview – Medical Writer / Director, Scientific Services
The Medical Writer leads the planning, development, and oversight of scientific content across various therapeutic areas for assigned accounts. Content formats include clinical study protocols, reports, patient narratives, slide decks, executive summaries, eLearning platforms, and web applications.
This key role requires strategic medical communication expertise to support brand goals and client expectations.
Core Responsibilities
- Independently develop and edit medical writing deliverables while collaborating with internal and freelance teams.
- Conduct thorough background research, data verification, and reference annotation.
- Manage timelines and resources to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
- Mentor junior medical writers and review their work for consistency and quality.
- Participate in regulatory submissions, medical, legal, and regulatory reviews as necessary.
- Keep current with industry trends, regulatory guidelines, and therapeutic areas.
- Foster client relationships and provide strategic medical communication advice.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, nursing, or biosciences preferred; relevant combination of education and experience considered.
- Minimum 2-3 years clinical content development experience, preferably in healthcare marketing or medical communications agencies.
- Expert knowledge of AMA style, medical terminology, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, self-starter attitude, and capacity for teamwork.
