Role and Responsibilities
As an IP DRG Medical Coder or QA Specialist, you’ll ensure accurate coding and compliance for inpatient records. Key responsibilities include:
- Coding Accuracy: Assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for inpatient records with ≥95% accuracy.
- Daily Operations: Code 2.5–3 charts/hour, meeting productivity and quality benchmarks.
- Compliance: Adhere to internal and external coding compliance policies.
- Data Management: Abstract records and prepare status reports as required.
- Quality Assurance (QA): Review coded data, identify discrepancies, and ensure audit readiness.
- Performance Improvement: Incorporate feedback and training to enhance coding efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in these roles, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Graduation in Life Sciences or Medical Sciences (e.g., B.Sc. Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, B.Pharm, Nursing).
- Experience: 1–6 years in IP DRG medical coding or related specialties.
- Certifications: Valid coding certification (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC) through AAPC or AHIMA, with minimum 3-month validity from joining date.
Skills:
- Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards.
- Expertise in IP DRG coding; surgical or denial coding experience preferred.
- Familiarity with tools like Encoder, CAC, MS Office, and EMRs.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and time management.
